As part of the pilot Bath Policy Engagement Academy (BPEA), the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) will be running a policy engagement training session for early career researchers (ECRs) in May.
The session will be delivered by Professor Nick Pearce (Director of the IPR), Dr Emma Gibbard (Research Impact Manager, Research & Innovation Services) and Amy Thompson (Head of Policy Programmes and Communications, IPR).
The training session will cover:
- How government and Parliament work
- How policy is made
- Communicating with policymakers
- Some of the mechanisms of policy engagement
It will include one-to-one training with participants to help them develop a policy engagement strategy appropriate to their research.
The session will take place on Thursday 23 May 2024, 1pm – 3pm, and will be held online on Microsoft Teams.
Who can apply
Candidates should be ECRs at the University of Bath who meet one or more of the criteria below:
- Little or limited experience of policy engagement
- Looking to apply for external policy placements, for example with the Royal Society, or ESRC / EPSRC fellowships
- Have moved to new areas of research and would benefit from this policy engagement training
