Staff from our three faculties, industry and visiting academics came together to showcase existing nuclear research, develop nuclear-related research themes, and to raise the profile of the South West Nuclear Hub and nuclear research.

The event brought together a new cross-disciplinary community and is the first step in engaging with the large nuclear industry presence in the South West of the UK and with our partner GW4 universities through the nuclear hub.

It was organised by Dr Alf Hill from the Department of Chemical Engineering and supported by Professor Nick Brook and Professor Chick Wilson from the Faculty of Science.

Delegates enjoyed fascinating talks by Professor Jens Roehrich on the ‘Hinkley Point C Supply Chain Lab’; industrialist Roger Rayner from Flexible Process Consultants on the separation of tritiated water; Professor Andreas Kyprianou on Stochastic Analysis of the Neutron Transport Equation; and Professor Steve Parker on ‘Atomistic Modelling of Nuclear Materials’.

Professor Nick Brook said: “This was the first time that we brought together nuclear researchers within a single event at Bath and it was met with great enthusiasm."

"Bath has a diverse and strong nuclear research capability which we can build upon to take advantage of the many research opportunities in this area.”
