The University is saddened to learn of the death of Harshith Chittoor Satish, who passed away on Saturday 18 March.
Harshith was in his final year of a Master of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Hons) Aerospace Engineering degree. He was a much-liked member of the Chaplaincy community, as well as many Students’ Union sport and social clubs. He enjoyed photography, playing dodgeball, music and Indian dancing as well as the outdoors, and cooking vegetarian food.
Harshith’s Head of Department, Andrew Plummer, said: “Harshith was a dedicated and accomplished student, with excellent academic results, and on target for a high grade in his Master of Engineering degree. He spent his third year very successfully in an industrial placement at ANSYS Granta.
“He was hardworking and intelligent, and a pleasure to supervise according to his project supervisor. He will be sorely missed by staff and students in Aerospace Engineering, and in the wider Department of Mechanical Engineering.”
Nigel Rawlinson, University Chaplain, said: “Harshith has been an important part of the Chaplaincy community for the last five years, where he reached out to new students, and enjoyed laughing and talking to others. The community loved his quiet thoughtfulness and care for others, as well as his sense of fun.
“They admired Harshith’s open-minded inclusivity and his interest in other faiths and traditions. Above all, they will remember Harshith’s faithfulness. He turned up for people and wanted to support them.”
Nigel will lead a memorial service for Harshith, in the Chaplaincy on campus on Thursday 23 March. Please arrive at 10.30 for a 10.45 start to join the livestream of the family service in Huntingdon. This will be a chance to gather and remember together, to hear the family tributes, to think and reflect, and light a candle. We know that Harshith’s death will affect fellow students, staff, and friends and a range of support is available for our students and staff.
