Vice-Chancellor’s report

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor presented the report on key issues facing the University.

Education Strategy and Curriculum Transformation

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) gave an update on progress on the Education Strategy. Senate also approved the success criteria for the Curriculum Transformation project.

Curriculum Transformation Committee membership

Senate approved new members of the Committee: Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) in the School of Management and the SU Education Officer and SU Postgraduate Officer.

New Programmes

Senate gave full and final approval to the:

  • new integrated PhD in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent Artificial Intelligence
  • new integrated PhD in Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems

Research Excellence Framework 2021 – Draft Code of Practice

Senate considered a draft REF Code of Practice presented by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research). This would be brought back to Senate for final approval in June.

Statement of Equality Objectives

Senate noted the new Statement of Equality Objectives for the period 2019-2021 as approved by Council.

Student Case Data

Senate noted Student Case Monitoring Data for the 2017/18 academic year.

Boards of Studies

Senate approved the calendar of meetings of Boards of Studies for the 2019/20 academic year.

Appointments

Senate nominated Mr Jamie Eastman to the Holburne Museum Trustee Board and appointed Dr Patrick Bury to the local Military Education Committee.

Statutes

Senate considered amendments to Statutes relating to Council, arising from the Council Effectiveness Review. These would be submitted to University Council and the Privy Council for approval.

Ordinances

Senate considered an addition of a new degree, MBiomed, to Ordinance 14.15 following approval by Academic Programmes Committee. This would be submitted to Council for approval.
