Having meaningful career development conversations with your staff - 11 June

This workshop provides peer perspectives on the challenges of managing staff on fixed term funding.

  • 11 Jun 2024, 10.00am to 11 Jun 2024, 10.45am BST (GMT +01:00)
  • This is an online event.

How do you balance responsibility for delivering a research project at the same time as supporting the development of the individual? This workshop provides peer perspectives on the challenges of managing staff on fixed term funding and having meaningful career conversations which enable them to flourish in both their current role and their future career. We’ll cover:

  • coaching skills to enable future-oriented career conversations
  • how you can help researchers to identify their strengths, skills and experience (particularly useful for anyone writing a narrative CV, appraisal, promotion or job application)
  • support and tools to help researchers broaden their networks and prioritise career development opportunities

This series of career masterclasses have been made possible thanks to the Research England Enhancing Research Culture funding. The masterclasses are designed to tackle the challenges we know postdocs face in making career decisions. Full of practical tips, advice and signposting, they will provide insight into strategies that PIs and their research staff can adopt to be efficient and effective in working out what research staff need from their next career move, and how they can get there.
