Bath Beacons empowers our research community to tackle major global challenges by building consortia for large-scale funding.

Bath Beacons is a University of Bath initiative which was launched in 2021 to empower our research community to tackle major global challenges by building consortia for large-scale funding.

The initiative supports a culture of grant capture for multidisciplinary collaborations that address UKRI strategic themes and are aligned to the University of Bath's research priorities of Digital; Sustainability; and Health and Wellbeing.

There have been two calls to the University of Bath's research community for Bath Beacons; in 2021, when the initiative was launched, and 2023 for a second round. Those successful were awarded Beacon status and some of the original beacons have become Research Institutes and Centres and/or won large-scale funding.

Research and Innovation Services (RIS) is a key resource to support and inform the work of the Bath Beacon consortia. For example, the Research Development team in RIS work with Beacon leads to identify large-scale external funding opportunities and to realise new collaborations.
