Accounts for students
You'll receive your account details by email. Your account is activated once you've registered as a student of the University.
Accounts for staff
Your account is set up once HR has added you to the University’s HR system. You’ll then be sent an access code.
We recommend collecting your account details in person at the IT Service Desk on level 2 of the Library. Bring your library card, or your contract and a form of ID.
If you can’t visit in person, call the IT Service Desk on +44 (0)1225 383434 and have your access code ready.
Accounts for contractors and longer-term visitors
If someone needs access for more than 3 months, they’ll need an external account rather than a temporary one. This might be a contractor, a volunteer or a visiting academic.
Complete the volunteer or other person IT approval form and send it to the Designated Maintainer for your department. They’ll arrange your access.
Temporary accounts for short visits
Temporary accounts are for short visits, usually up to 3 months. For example, conference delegates, guest lecturers and interview candidates.
Only members of staff can request a temporary account for a visitor. Submit your request at least 5 working days before your visitor needs access.
Temporary accounts give access to University desktops and eduroam Wi-Fi. You can also request access to Moodle, Linux, laptops and online Microsoft 365 apps.
They don't include a University email address, OneDrive, Teams or VPN. If your visitor needs these, speak to the Designated Maintainer for your department about a longer-term account instead.
Temporary accounts come with a randomly generated password. If your visitor will use the account for more than a few days, they should change it using the Password Changer.
Using your account responsibly
Everyone using the University's IT and network facilities must follow DDaT policies, in particular the:
Activity is logged and monitored in line with the DDaT Monitoring Policy.
