Studying an MSc to help make a difference in the renewable energy sector

Elizabeth Macharia tells us how choosing to study our MSc in Electrical Power Systems has given her a well-rounded university experience.

Our students have access to a range of facilities in electrical power systems.

It was the University’s stellar academic reputation, teaching quality, career prospects, Students’ Union and the beautiful city that influenced my decision to study my MSc at Bath.

The modules on the Electrical Power Systems course were pertinent to my future aspirations. I knew that an education from the University would be a great stepping stone to developing my career.

The lecturers are always willing to lend a helping hand. And when you need that extra support, the Skills Centre have classes in academic writing, presentation skills and critical thinking just to name a few.

More than an academic experience

There is also the Students’ Union. It has been voted one of the best in the country and has many societies and activities you can get involved with. I joined the Kickboxing Society and it has been great for improving my physical and mental wellbeing.

I have been able to meet and interact with people from all different specialities and walks of life. I have learned so much from every one of them.

I knew that studying at Bath would lead to a well-rounded university experience. I studied my undergraduate degree at another university in the UK but it is my experience here that has been the best I have had while living in the UK. It has definitely been the best decision I have made.

Looking ahead

The careers service has been amazing in giving me advice that will help me get a job in the future. I hope to get a job and can gain chartered engineering status so I can carry on the legacy of the University of Bath, as past students have done. Eventually, I want to work in the renewable energy sector and make a positive difference in the world.
