Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to allow the student to appreciate the scientific background to specific areas of pharmacology, and to evaluate the significance of particular experimental approaches to the development of current understanding of pharmacology.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the unit the student should be able to:
1. demonstrate an ability to analyse seminal findings from early pharmacological literature
2. appreciate the relevance of historical observations to current areas of research in pharmacology.

Written communication skills (T/F/A).

Content:
The student will undertake this unit using the facilities of the placement provider, and with the advice and support of the placement supervisor. The subjects of the essays may in part reflect the research activities of the placement, but will emphasise the historical significance of specific experiments and published reports within given areas of pharmacological interest.
