Description: Aims:
To:
* provide an understanding of the approach to undertaking research work
* provide the students with a conceptual understanding and techniques that enable the student to evaluate critically current research
* enable students to be able to plan a detailed research project
* guide the student in how to collect, interpret and analyse data

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit the student will be able to:
* acquire, analyse and process data from a variety of sources, relevant to the chosen research project
* show sound judgement and initiative in the initial stages of undertaking an engineering project
* write a project proposal
* write a project synopsis

* conducting a literature survey

* students will undertake project scoping activity, leading up to the production of a Project Proposal, to act as a discussion document to use with staff on planning their research - formative assessment
* students will use their Project Proposal to write a Project Synopsis, as a more formal plan for their research (in Project Phase 2) - summative assessment.
