Description: Aims:
To explore a range of key research designs and methods which can be used to collect data to inform and deliver enhanced practice in health.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit participants will be able to:
1. Describe a range of research designs and methods which are suitable for use in conducting a small scale research project, service evaluation, audit or quality improvement initiative (knowledge, intellectual skills; taught and facilitated)
2. Formulate appropriate research questions suitable for conducting research in and on practice (intellectual skills, practical skills, key skills; taught, facilitated and assessed)
3. Select an appropriate research design and methods from a range of available approaches and critically discuss their use to conduct research in your area of practice or research interest (including qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches (intellectual skills, practical skills, key skills; taught, facilitated and assessed)
4. Create and critically review a research protocol which describes a small-scale resarch project based in practice (intellectual skills, practical skills, key skills; taught, facilitated and assessed)
5. Develop and practice a range of skills to support conducting a research project, including ethical review of research; project planning techniques, presentation (oral and poster); networking for interdisciplinarity; etc. (intellectual skills, professional skills, practical skills, key skills; taught, facilitated and assessed).
