Bath has been named among the top 100 in the world for Sports-Related Subjects, Development Studies, Social Policy & Administration, and Psychology in The QS World University Rankings By Subject 2023.

Sports-Related Subjects are placed highest at joint 7th. This is the third year in a row that our sports courses have been recognised as among the world’s top 10.

Psychology is a newcomer to the top 100 at 97, while Social Policy & Administration moved up one place to 45. Development Studies maintained its place in the top 100.

Modern Languages continued its impressive rise, moving into the 251-300 bracket, while Sociology also saw a considerable improvement on last year’s position.

Professor Deborah Wilson, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, said:

I’m delighted that all of the Faculty’s subject rankings have either remained in the same band or have moved up, with four of our subject areas now holding top 100 positions. This is a fantastic achievement, reflecting the excellent international reputation of our colleagues and Departments across the Faculty.

The annual ranking, compiled by higher education analysts QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), assesses the performance of 1,594 institutions globally. Its scores are calculated through an analysis of institutional performance including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per research paper, and a measure of the productivity and impact of the work published by an institution’s scientists and scholars. 

Bath also ranked in the global top 100 for Architecture & Built Environment (51-100) and Business & Management Studies (=78).
