The student voice is powerful in influencing University action on sustainability: the 2023-24 Sustainability Survey sparked a number of actions. For example, last year, 26% of students stated that the range of opportunities available for them to take action on sustainability was important to them, so we created a new webpage to help students navigate the world of taking sustainable action at Bath.

Five things you should know from this year's survey

  1. 94% of students believe that the University should be taking action on climate change and sustainability: big things are happening this year, keep an eye out for a range of new policies, commitments and actions from the University coming soon
  2. 87% of students say they are worried when asked about climate change: you are not alone in this feeling and you can connect with the vibrant student community who are driving positive change through sustainable societies and projects such as Vertically Integrated Projects
  3. Students shared that they want support on how to live more sustainably and the survey also highlighted that the cost of living remains a pressing issue for students: for helpful tips to get you started, check out the student guide, 'How to Save Money and the Planet'
  4. 37% of students recognise that sustainability is embedded in their course: if this isn’t you then talk to your academic tutor or course rep about the learning and skills you need for the future as your voice truly matters
  5. Students appear to be less aware of University initiatives than members of staff, here are a few opportunities available to students we think you should know about:
    • take part in a Climate Literacy course to improve your climate knowledge and leave feeling empowered to take sustainable action
    • you can get 35% off Dott e-bike and e-scooters with your student email
    • Dr Bike is on campus regularly throughout the rest of the academic year offering free bike safety checks to help you get active on your commute

Bath is dedicated to fostering an environment where every student is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to take sustainable action now and in your future. We are committed to responding to the feedback from the sustainability survey and look forward to the exciting progress happening in the coming year.
