The Global Chair Scheme call for nominations has now launched for the 2024/25 academic year.
The Scheme provides support for internationally leading scholars to join Bath as distinguished international visiting professors to enhance our global networks and drive quality, achievement and impact through international collaborations.Â
The scheme supports the University strategic pillar of 'Driving high impact research', whilst also linking up world-class research expertise and strategic international networks, institutions and research institutes. This year there is a focus on nominees from top-200 QS ranked institutions, individuals whose research aligns with one of our research pillars and research collaborations with the potential to feed into our REF 2028 submission. For this call, two Global Chairs will be selected for an appointment of two years and the Global Chair and nominators will be supported by the International Relations Office throughout.
Previous Global Chairs include Professor Alberto Minetti, Distinguished Professor of Physiology at the University of Milan. Prof Minetti's appointment built on his previous collaboration with Dr Dario Cazzola in the Department for Health and has resulted in two grant applications, one with the European Space Agency and the other with the Leverhulme Trust, three published outputs co-authored internationally, two conference presentations in Italy and Taiwan, and the opportunity to host a Bath PhD student in Milan.
Current Global Chairs include Prof. Francesca Aweeka, Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of California San Francisco, Prof. Dennis Broeders, Professor of Global Security and Technology at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University, Prof. Jong Kun Choi, Professor International Relations and International Security at Yonsei University, and Prof. Nicolas Kotov, Irving Langmuir Distinguished University Professor of Chemical Sciences and Engineering at the University of Michigan. Prof. Choi will be presenting a public lecture, titled 'Power of Peace on the Korean Peninsula: Lessons from the Moon Jae-in Administration', on campus on Monday 15th January. Visit the event page to find out more and register for tickets.
In a change to previous years, nominations should be submitted via a Microsoft form. We advise you to review the Global Chair Scheme 2024/25 guidelines and eligibility criteria before you submit your nomination.
