Dear colleague,

Bath is currently within an Amber Heat-health alert area, and a Red Heat-health alert will be in effect from Wednesday 24 June to Thursday 25 June 2026.

Severe impacts are expected on infrastructure such as transport and utilities, with increased risks to health due to the high temperatures.

From now, until 11pm on Thursday:

  • If you are vulnerable and not able to work in extreme heat, please speak to your line manager.
  • Please only travel to campus if it is necessary for your role, or it is the most comfortable place for you to work, and check public transport before you set off.
  • Consider moving meetings online if you are able, to enable colleagues to work from the location which suits them best in the heat.
  • If you plan to host visitors on campus, please consider postponing your meeting. If you need to be on campus, and are able, use those spaces which are likely to be cooler.

Key operational staff should already be aware if they are required on campus; please check with your line manager if you are unsure.

The University will be operating limited services on campus on Wednesday and Thursday. Retail and Hospitality Services may be affected, we will contact you if your booking is affected and The Market will close from end of today (Monday).

We expect more information from the UK Government on national response, which may include a national red alert phone warning. If you need to turn alerts off to stay safe watch the video from Refuge.

If you are experiencing ill health contact 111 for NHS advice and in case of emergency contact Security for first aid support. For further advice on staying cool and hydrated, please see:

We are keeping the situation under review and will update you if circumstances change.

As well as the staff homepage, we will also post updates to:
