Centre for Health and Public Interest: NHS Profit Map

A study and tool to uncover how much profit is being made out of the NHS.

How much is leaking out in profit from the NHS in your local area?

For this research project, funded by Friends Provident Foundation, the Centre for Health and Public Interest (CHPI) analysed £12 billion of expenditure by NHS England and local NHS bodies – Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) over 2 years. Noting that this is not all of the money spent by the NHS on private companies, CPHI estimates that of this £12 billion, £1.6 billion leaked out in profit to private companies. This research project provides a comprehensive database on NHS expenditure in the private by NHS commissioning bodies which would identify profit extraction at both a national and a local level. It also offers a tool, allowing people to find out how much profit is leaking out in their local area.
