Facilities and learning resources to support your studies

Use our study spaces, labs, specialist facilities, and support services to work towards achieving your academic potential.

Places to study

Everyone has their own way of studying. At Bath, you can choose from a range of different study spaces, helping you find the environment that suits you best.

There are study spaces all around campus, including in the Students' Union building and the Library.

The Library has printed and electronic books, electronic journals, specialist databases, and academic publications available. There are also copy, print, and scanning facilities, and Library staff can source alternative formats of print materials.

Our bookable study spaces are informal and comfortable learning spaces, set up to suit independent study or group work. They have printing facilities and vending machines.

You can also log on in one of the seven computer labs on campus. They have around 300 computers between them, which you can use whenever they're not being used for teaching.

If you're not on campus, you can also use the PCs and study spaces at the Virgil Building, our city-centre hub.

Subject-specific advice

Each academic department has a professionally-qualified Subject Librarian, so no matter what you choose to study, they can help you get the most out of the Library's resources.

Our Subject Librarians specialise in all areas of study. They can give you expert advice and help you find the books, journals, and resources you need for your course.

You can also get training from them on how to research a subject area, add references to your work and assess the quality of sources.

Specialist facilities

Studying at Bath, you get access to facilities that support your learning, including laboratories and specialist equipment, depending on your course. We continually invest in developing our facilities, and many external companies come to use specialist equipment they can't find elsewhere.

As a student, you could put theory into practice by using these facilities, including our:

  • acoustics lab with sound-pressure level meters
  • artificial sky with light meters
  • automatic motion capture system
  • psychology observation suites
  • refurbished Engineering laboratories
  • 3D printers

You'll also have access to our Virtual Learning Environment, with course materials, quizzes, and recorded lectures for your subject.

Buying books and equipment

If you need books or equipment not available on campus, it’s easy to get things delivered to the University.

The parcel room on campus is close to the accommodation blocks, and there's another in our city accommodation. If you get a parcel, the Postal Services team will email you so you know when to pick it up.

There is also an Amazon Locker in the centre of campus, so you can pick up your orders whenever you want.
