Men's Network

An opportunity for men from all departments to discuss male health and wellbeing, and connect with other male colleagues.

Sign up for the first of our University tours, with the landscaping team on 14 January

About the network

The Men's Network is a space where all male staff within the University are invited to come together to socialise and discuss concerns.

The Men’s Network is led by Chair Simon Brown, with support from committee members. We offer men from all departments a safe space to discuss any concerns around physical health, mental health and general wellbeing – or a chance to simply to connect with other male colleagues.

Aims of the group

Our network members have the opportunity to share their experiences and seek advice or support. It's our hope that these conversations and shared experiences will lead to connections and mutual support between men across the University.

We aim to:

  • show it’s ok to ask for help
  • raise awareness that poor mental health is the same as poor physical health
  • heighten awareness on how to to improve mental and physical health
  • bring men together to share experiences, talk about concerns and develop friendships
  • reduce the feeling of isolation and loneliness
  • signpost to organisations who can help

How we are doing this

We provide a safe space for men to discuss any concerns including physical health, mental health and general wellbeing. Since the group started, we’ve organised free health MOTs, heard from a prostate specialist, run yoga and movement sessions and held social get togethers.

It is hoped that these conversations will lead to meaningful connections and mutual support between men across the University.

How to get involved

Join our network for an opportunity to come together in a social setting, share skills and interests and build new friendships.

You can join the network via our Teams site.

Network Chair Simon Brown will be happy to provide you with more information about the group and resources.

Calling for your help…

Throughout 2026 we are hoping to organise a series of tours of campus workplaces but we need your support. Could you either help us organise a tour of your workplace or share the best point of contact to arrange this?

With your help, we can create a regular social event to highlight the amazing workplaces, projects and staff at the University, and bring people together in a social activity.

Please contact Simon Brown with any suggestions or comments.
