Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students should be able to:
* Understand some of the relationships between exercise/physical activity and health; including the impact on physiological risk factors for chronic diseases (and the processes involved in the development of such diseases).
* Understand key concepts and terms such as 'exercise', 'physical activity', 'physical inactivity' and 'sedentary'.
* Understand the risk-benefits of physical activity for health

Skills:
Knowledge and understanding (taught, facilitated and assessed)
Intellectual skills (facilitated and assessed)
Professional practical skills (taught, facilitated and assessed)
Written communication (facilitated and assessed)
Numeracy (facilitated and assessed)
Data acquisition, handling, and analysis (taught, facilitated and assessed)
Information technology (facilitated and assessed)
Working independently (facilitated and assessed)

Content:
Health and disease in the UK and other developed countries, physical activity/exercise terminology and definitions, physical activity measurement, dietary analysis, impact of physical activity/exercise on chronic diseases and risk factors for disease (cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia/hypercholesterolaemia, cancer, osteoporosis), risk-benefits of physical activity, individual responses to exercise/physical activity.
