Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to equip students with sufficient knowledge of the uses and limitations of financial and management accounting information to support the general management function and appreciate how specialist activities in these areas can contribute to the attainment of financial and business objectives.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit, students should be able to:
1. Explain the purpose and content of the principal financial statements of a company.
2. apply analytical techniques to interpret them.
3. Describe the components of an annual report and explain their re spective purposes in terms of their contribution to corporate accountability.
4. Describe the limitations of financial statements as a basis for decision making.
5. Explain the uses of key management accounting techniques in the support of strategy, decision-making and control.

* a critical awareness of current issues and frameworks in management (T/A);
* the ability to acquire and analyse data, information and situations; to evaluate relevance and validity, and to synthesise it in the context of topical business problems (F);
