Requisites:
Aims: The aim of this unit is to develop concepts and techniques for good practice in coaching and managing high performance athletes, and to enable students to further build on their practical pedagogical experience.

Learning Outcomes: 1. Analyse advanced issues and topics pertaining to sport coaching and performance management
2. Analyse and apply relevant social sciences theories and concepts and explain their value in understanding and improving sport coaching and managing athlete and team performance
3. Analyse practical knowledge and skills in sport coaching and performance management
4. Analyse and apply ideas from reputable academic (e.g., scholarly journals) and non-academic (e.g., governing bodies) sources relevant to coaching and performance management in group and independent research activities
5. Articulate advanced issues, theories, principles, and perspectives relevant to sport coaching and performance management research projects to intended audiences, such as academics and sports practictioners, using appropriate technologies.
6. Identify and make use of team-working skills to tackle and present a group research activity
7. Identify, evaluate, and discuss problems and challenges in sport coaching and performance management, formulating and defending informed solutions, indenpdently and as part of a group.

Effectively utilise contemporary information and communication technologies (ICTs).

Content: Teaching and learning in practice; coach behaviour; player-centred coaching; skill acquisition; athlete motivation; analysing sport performance; performance-tracking hardware and software; roles and responsibilities in performance analysis; implications of technology in elite sport (e.g., trust, relationships, work/life balance); managing elite athletes; athlete identity; retirement from sport; coach-athlete relationships; professional development and careers in coaching and sport performance.
