Requisites:
Aims: The aim of this unit is to examine the various dimensions of and processes through which we learn about sport, health, and the body in contemporary society, and to facilitate creative experience in developing sport- and/or health-related resources.

Learning Outcomes: 1. Analyse advanced issues and topics pertaining to the sociology of sport and health
2. Analyse and apply relevant theories and concepts in examining the sociological determinants and implications of sport and health
3. Analyse and apply ideas from reputable academic (e.g., scholarly journals) and non-academic (e.g., news media) sources relevant to the sociology of sport and health in group and independent research activities
4. Articulate advanced issues, theories, principles, and perspectives relevant to the sociology of sport and health research projects to intended audiences, such as academics and the public, using appropriate technologies
5. Identify and make use of team-working skills to tackle and present a group research activity
6. Identify, evaluate, and discuss problems and challenges in the sociology of sport and health, formulating and defending informed solutions, independently and as part of a group.

Content: Sociological theories and concepts (e.g., feminist theory, postcolonial theory, capital, identity, embodiment, affect); identity and intersectionality (e.g., age, class, disability, gender, race, sexuality); equality and inclusivity; critical perspectives on health and the body; health literacy; formal vs informal learning; health education campaigns and interventions; digital technology and health promotion; careers in sport and health.
