Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the student will be able to:
* Understand what is meant by Human Resource Management;
* Understand the contribution of HRM to employees and to the organisation;
* Identify and understand the core standard areas of HRM within organisations;
* Describe and analyse both content and context for these core areas;
* Critically assess the practical value of HRM theories, concepts, and debates.

Aims: Students will be introduced to the concepts and theories of human resource management (HRM) and explore contemporary policy developments and management practice from the perspective of the organisation and the employee.

Skills: Key skills:
* Understanding of theory and practice and critical debates (taught and assessed)
* Use theory to analyse case studies (taught and facilitated)
* Application of concepts and models to practical situations (taught and facilitated).

Content: Key topics covered include: Intro to HRM theories/models; Recruitment, selection, and onboarding; training and development; performance and reward; employee relations and engagement.
