Arrange a sponsor to pay your tuition fees

An external organisation can sponsor your studies and pay your tuition fees. Find out who can be a sponsor and how they can make payment.

Who can be a sponsor

A sponsor could be an employer, a commercial organisation or a government body; a sponsor is not a friend or relative who has agreed to pay your tuition fee.

All organisations must be background checked and approved by the University before they can be registered as a student’s sponsor.

Checking your sponsor has been registered successfully during registration

If you are not an 'Online Programs' or 'Distant Learning' student, your sponsorship information will show under the 'Fees and Payments' section of registration if your sponsor is approved and linked to your student account successfully.

If your sponsorship isn't shown under the 'Fees and Payments' section, you should contact the Student Finance Office at stu-fin@bath.ac.uk explaining your situation.

If you are an 'Online Masters' or 'Distant Learning' student, your sponsor will be automatically invoiced if they are approved.

Government sponsors

If a government body has agreed to sponsor a student, the organisation should prepare a letter of sponsorship and email it to the Student Finance Office at stu-fin@bath.ac.uk. The letter of sponsorship should contain:

  • the student’s full name and student number
  • the amount or percentage and period or duration of their sponsorship funding
  • the sponsor's address, website, email address and contact telephone number
  • the sponsor's company registration number, (VAT number for UK sponsors)

Online Master's student sponsors

An organisation wishing to sponsor a University of Bath student studying on one of the '100% Online Master’s' courses should complete the Sponsorship Agreement Letter for Online Master’s Students.

The completed form should be submitted to online-applications@bath.ac.uk.

All other sponsors

All other qualifying organisations who have agreed to sponsor a student should complete the Sponsor Agreement Letter.

The completed form should be submitted to your course contact or the Student Finance Office at stu-fin@bath.ac.uk.

Sponsor payments

Sponsors for 'Online Masters' or 'Distant Learning' students will receive an emailed invoice for each course/ module.

For all other students, sponsors will receive an emailed invoice for their full sponsorship for the academic year following the registration period; sponsor invoices are payable in one instalment.

Sponsors must pay their invoices by direct bank transfer, payment instructions are provided on the invoice.

Students remain responsible for ensuring their tuition fees are paid. Failure to make payment by the sponsor will result in the fees being transferred directly to the student to pay in full.
