Additional security protection for your student record

You’ll need to verify your identify with MFA to log into SAMIS - the system that holds your student record, where you get your results, and choose your Units.

As a student, you'll regularly use SAMIS, the University's Student & Applicant Management Information System, to access your student record.

You may know it by a different name, but the things you would use it for include:

  • getting your results
  • choosing your Units at the beginning of the academic year
  • getting proof of your student status for Council Tax purposes
  • checking or updating the information the University holds about you

Authenticating your identity

When you log in to SAMIS (desktop and web versions) you'll need to verify your identity using Muti-Factor Authentication (MFA). Having this method in place further protects your sensitive information and data, and provides extra security controls to reduce the impact of a cyber-attack.

If you haven't already, you'll need to set up suitable authentication methods for your University Microsoft 365 account before you log into University systems such as SAMIS.

Check, change, or add authentication methods

Visit the Layer up your account security with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) webpage for information and guidance including:

  • an introduction to MFA
  • How to check, change, or add authentication methods
  • A summary of which methods are suitable for signing into University systems

Verify your identify when you log in

Your login experience will be similar to when you sign in to other University services, such as Outlook. Simply:

  • enter your full University username and domain (e.g. abc123@bath.ac.uk) and password within the Microsoft pop-up
  • follow the Microsoft instructions to verify your identify using your chosen authentication method

How frequently you’ll need to authenticate your login

The additional security protection is usually only triggered for your first sign across University Systems and Services each day.

You would only need to re-authenticate more often if there are login behaviours that have increased risk, such as logins from a different location or device.
