The Bath Award is being piloted in academic year 2025-26.

All students currently studying at the university are eligible to register and take part in the award. You can be an undergrad or postgrad student, be studying on campus or remotely, and be a full- or part-time student. It doesn't matter which course you're studying, or which year you're in, the award is open to everyone.

General queries

I've missed the deadline to register for the award. Can I still take part this year?

Unfortunately, registrations for the award this year have now closed and we're unable to extend the deadline. We understand that this may be disappointing but in the interests of fairness for all students we need to enforce the published deadline of 1 November.

What is the final submission deadline for the Bath Award?

The deadline for the completion and submission of your completed Bath Award activities is 1 May 2026.

Am I eligible for the Bath Award if I am a Gold Scholar?

Yes, Gold Scholars are eligible. You may use the same volunteering hours for both the Gold Scholarship Programme and the Bath Award.

Does everyone who applies and successfully completes all the necessary tasks gain the award?

Yes. There are no limits on the number of people who can receive the award. Everyone who completes their submission by the deadline, with the correct number of hours logged and the appropriate pieces of professional development submitted, will receive the award.

Logging hours

Can I log hours from previous years or do I need to start fresh this year?

You may log hours from previous years as long as they were completed while you were a registered student at the University of Bath. There is no need to start over.

Can I use hours from different types of activities for the 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?

Yes, you can mix and match hours from volunteering, paid employment, and student leadership, as long as they were completed while you were a registered University of Bath student. These activities do not need to be associated with the university, and can be completed externally, for example, part-time employment counts towards your 50 hours.

Does time spent as a Hall Representative count towards the Bath Award?

Yes, Hall Representative roles count under the student leadership category.

Do sporting activities count towards the Bath Award?

Sporting activities can count if they involve student leadership, volunteering, or paid employment. For example, coaching, captaining a team, or running sports clubs would be eligible. Simply participating in a team does not qualify.

Can I use my time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge for my 50 hours of activity?

Yes. This year, as we are in a pilot year for the Bath Award, you are able to log time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge on your Bath Award submission. (Please note, this may change in future years.)

Does attending a conference count towards my 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?

Attendance alone does not count towards your 50 hours. However, if you have contributed in a volunteer or paid capacity through working at the event or held a student leadership role (e.g. chairing the event), it is eligible.

Are online resources and training provided or do I need to find them myself?

You need to source your own online resources and training, ensuring they align with your personal development goals. LinkedIn Learning resources are a great place to start! We have put together a collection of LinkedIn Learning resources for each capability to make it easier to find relevant content, but you don’t have to use these. If you would like to see what we’ve compiled, go to My Employability Profile, ‘Search skills’, and filter by the relevant capability on the left-hand side. The collections of LinkedIn Learning resources will look like the image shown above.

Do I need to complete one workshop, one online article or resource, and one online training for each capability?

Yes, you’ll need to complete one workshop, one article, and one online training per capability. As you need to complete four capabilities, this totals 12 activities – three for each of your four capabilities.

How do I find endorsed workshops for the Bath Award?

Bath Award endorsed workshops are listed in My Employability Profile. You can filter the list by capability on the left-hand side to find relevant options.

Can I attend online Bath Award workshops while I’m on placement?

Yes, online workshops are available, and more are being added. However, you’re not able to attend in-person workshops remotely.

There isn't an online workshop option available for one of my capabilities, what can I do?

More endorsed workshops, including online options, are being added and are expected to run in semester 2. You have until 1 May 2026 to send in your final submission, so as more workshops are added and run during Semester 2, you will be able to take part and complete your submission within the deadline.
