Definitions of visibility categories
- ‘Public - No restriction’: content could be viewed publicly. Please note that certain Pure content types (Impact, Applications, Awards) do not get displayed on the Research Portal even though their visibility can be set to 'Public - No restriction’
- ‘Campus - Restricted to specific IP range’: do not use this category
- ‘Backend - Restricted to Pure users’: content visible to Pure users when logged into Pure
- ‘Confidential - Restricted to associated users and editors’: the email addresses of those who can view your information will be displayed. This includes the contributors, editors (faculty administrators) and Pure administrators in RIS and Digital, Data & Technology (DDT)
Changing the visibility of a record
For most records the default setting is ‘Public - No restriction’. If for a particular record you wish to change this, open the record and scroll down to the ‘Visibility’ section. Choose the appropriate visibility category and remember to press ‘Save’.
Default visibility settings for research outputs
The default setting for research outputs depends on their status.
Outputs which are 'In preparation' or 'Submitted' have the default setting 'Backend - Restricted to Pure users'.
Outputs which are accepted, 'E-pub ahead of print' and 'Published' have the default setting 'Public - No restriction'. These records will be visible on the Research Portal once Library colleagues have validated the record.
Visibility settings for activities, prizes, press and media records
If you add a new activity, prize or press/media record, by default they will be set to ‘Public - No restriction’ and displayed on the Research Portal. You can amend the visibility setting when creating the record.
If you upload any documents to activity or prize records, you must comply with the University’s Deposit Licence and ensure that you hold the copyright for the file or are authorised to upload and publicly display the file by the copyright owner.
There is no validation process for these records, and it is your responsibility to ensure that the content is accurate, appropriate for public display, and does not infringe any copyright.
Visibility settings for impact records
If the potential impact of your research could be commercially sensitive, mark the record as ‘Confidential’.
