Associate Director (Communications & Engagement)

Are you a strategic communicator with a passion for building meaningful connections and driving positive change? If so, we have an opportunity for you to make a difference as our Associate Director (Communications & Engagement).  

As Associate Director (Communications & Engagement), you will play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful connections with our diverse stakeholders and in shaping our strategic communications plans, including demonstrating the impact of our research and innovation. With your strategic vision and creative flair, you will lead our talented internal and external communications professionals. These teams deliver excellent communications through strategic campaigns, news and media, social media, and staff and student engagement, with a clear focus on audience and outcomes.

The Associate Director (Communications & Engagement) has a lead role in raising the University’s regional, national, and international profile, enhancing its reputation for research and teaching excellence.

The post-holder reports to the Vice-President (External Relations).

About You

  • an experienced communications specialist who can develop, implement, and deliver effective strategic communications and engagement plans
  • passionate about higher education and its contribution to the global common good through education and research
  • a strategic thinker who combines innovation with a focus on outcomes and impact
  • a natural relationship builder, influencer, and leader who is used to collaborating closely with colleagues to successfully deliver plans
  • an expert spokesperson, able to tell the University’s story aligned with our strategy and ambitions
  • expert in leading proactive strategies and experienced in managing urgent and reactive communications with sensitivity
  • skilled people leader, with a coaching approach and the ability to nurture talent.
