Benjamin Orford Thompson Student Governor

Will undertake the responsibilities of members of governing bodies as set out in the CUC Guide for Members of Higher Education Governing Bodies in the UK.

Career

Benjamin Orford Thompson is a Politics with Economics student at the University of Bath, currently on his professional placement year and set to graduate in 2027. He was born and raised in Madrid, Spain, and attended King’s College Soto.

He is serving his second term in the Students’ Union, having held the roles of Community Officer and now SU President, where he also chairs the Board of Trustees. His work has included projects related to governance, equity and inclusion, and student transport.

During his time at university, Benjamin founded the Bath Beats Society, worked at the SU bar, and joined the Bristol UOTC. He extended his placement year to continue working in student leadership.

Before starting university, he worked as a primary school teaching assistant and completed a self-supported bikepacking trip across 11 Western European countries.
