About us

Find out about our newly formed team

We are excited to be building a Marketing, Communications, and External Affairs function following a recent review of our activities. We are now recruiting to newly configured and vacant roles to help lead and deliver our three areas of expertise, which will play a pivotal role in supporting colleagues and delivering our strategy.

Our department is already full of talented individuals, and we are looking for colleagues to join us as we grow, develop, and continue to be award-winning.

We are a team of more than 50 professionals, united by a vision to empower people to choose the University of Bath and the desire for our organisation to be globally recognised as a distinctive, outstanding, and inclusive learning and research community. We inspire key audiences with compelling and creative narratives about what makes Bath special, underpinned by a joined-up approach, informed by data, and inspired by pioneering practices.

Our community

Andy and Sophie are often seen on the Parade at our vibrant Open Days. Andy from our media team is currently on secondment to our IPR (Institute for Policy Research). Sophie heads up marketing to postgraduate taught students.

Working at the University you will have opportunities to join and be part of supportive peer networks, access undergraduate and post-graduate degrees, make the most of our beautiful campus and sports facilities, and be part of a community that loves to learn and innovate.

Watch our staff volunteer recruitment video for our Open Day. This video also stars Andy, Kate, and Takashi, three of our Marketing, Communications, and External Affairs colleagues who give you an idea of what it is like on campus.

Our love of food and culture

Our teams love food and culture. We are lucky enough to have Shasha working in our team who manages our Chinese social media channels. We are grateful that Shasha brings us regular foodie treats from home and helps us learn about Chinese New Year too.

As well as staff socials in the summer, the team has also borrowed the Swedish concept of ‘fika’ and makes time each Tuesday for colleagues to share a cup of tea or coffee, good conversation, and a little something to eat.

Research with Impact

An example of one of our award-winning campaigns

Staff at an award event

We strive to create an environment where communications, marketing and external affairs professionals can do some of the best work of their careers. We love to innovate and to learn from best practice. Being externally recognised is always a chance to celebrate.

We are delighted to have recently scooped the award for Best Use of Content for the South of England and Channel Islands in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards 2023, which celebrate the best PR work across the UK regions.

The award win recognises our work devising, delivering, and measuring the University’s Research with Impact. The campaign combines interactive long-form articles, new research videos, creatives for out of home and a podcast series. You can watch the launch video to give you a taste of the campaign.

Driving high-impact research is a core pillar of our university strategy, and Research with Impact celebrates our cross-disciplinary research which is helping to change the world for the better.

The CIPR judges said: “This campaign started with a clear vision and a link to business objectives, married with meaningful KPIs. Aptly the team demonstrated thorough research to underpin both the impressive content and broader communications choices, to best reach the audience. We loved the 'depth and focus' approach and the attention paid to internal audiences. Monitoring and evaluation also went above and beyond by exceeding KPIs, conducting formative evaluation, and going beyond just reporting numbers, to showing tangible outcomes directly linked to the campaign.”

Working at Bath

Our campus is surrounded by beautiful countryside, close to the vibrant city of Bath; full of historic charm, contemporary culture, and green spaces, making it an excellent environment in which to work.

We strive to be an inclusive university where difference is celebrated, respected, and encouraged. We have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations and have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Silver Athena SWAN award. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, so we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and communities, particularly from underrepresented groups, and value the positive impact that will have on our teams.
