A refreshed approach to our cyber security training
A new course called Information Security Awareness, will be available from w/c 09 November 2026. It replaces the historic mandatory Cyber Security Awareness course for staff.
Why a new course is being launched
Security threats are ever evolving so it's important everyone's aware of common risks and what you should do to protect both yourself and our organisation.
The new course better reflects current and emerging Information Security essentials at Bath, and includes messages from Dr Andy Fincham, our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
The shift from cyber to information security also reflects the broader picture of keeping our information safe: cyber security focuses on protecting our systems and online data, while information security reflects how we can all help protect information, in all its forms, every day.
How this affects your mandatory training record
Due to the significant content changes and the importance of keeping our information safe, all staff will need to refresh their knowledge over the coming months regardless of previous completion of the historic Cyber Security Awareness course.
Your record for the new Information Security Awareness course will therefore show as 'incomplete' within the HR mandatory training dashboard until you have completed the course.
Next steps - get ready to update your knowledge
If you're a new member of staff, please complete the Information Security Awareness course as part of your mandatory training requirement once the course is available.
If you're an existing member of staff, you're welcome to complete the new Information Security Awareness course as soon as it's available. This will mean you're up to date when all staff are asked to complete the course in the coming months.
How to access the course
Once it's available, you'll be able to access the course via the Information security webpage.
