University of Bath

Civil engineering applicant visit days

We run visit days for our undergraduate degree offer-holders between November and April. Find out why you should attend one.

You will meet recent graduates and take part in a design exercise with current students

After you receive an offer to study one of our undergraduate courses, we will email to invite you to one of our applicant visit days. We usually run these between November and April. You will be able to choose which day you would like to attend, but it's best to book early as dates can fill up fast. Your email will include all the information you need about travelling here, accessibility and eating requirements.

Gain better insight into your course

We understand that you may have visited the campus at one of our University Open Days in June and September, so we've designed the day to be flexible with an optional talk and self-guided tour. Over lunch you'll have the opportunity to talk with academics and current students, and ask any questions about studying at Bath.

In the afternoon our students will show you our departmental facilities. You will see the design spaces where our students develop their project work, and laboratories where they learn about the behaviour of materials. You'll hear from one of our graduates, who will share what it's like to pursue a career in civil engineering.

You'll also have the opportunity to take part in a mini-project alongside current students. Working in a small group, you will rapidly generate creative proposals for a small building in an interesting setting. This will give you a taste of how sophisticated engineers work closely with architects and other professionals to produce new ideas.

Get a feel for campus and city life

Taking a self-guided tour around campus is a great chance to see what the University is like on a typical day, and experience the atmosphere of students and staff going about their business.

Campus life isn't just about studying, and there are many ways that you can make the most of your university experience. We'll provide you with a map so you can visit our Sports Training Village (STV), where you'll have access to the same facilities used by Olympic athletes. You can see our Students' Union, which houses the Student Centre, food outlets and the campus pub and night club. You can also visit The Edge, our arts centre, where you can take dance, art and music classes.

The city of Bath is only 10 minutes away by bus, so we advise you to visit the city after your day with us has finished.

Are you unable to attend an open day?

We offer a range of dates so you can choose to attend one that best suits you. If you don't live in the UK, we understand that it may be difficult to visit the University on the dates given. Please contact our Department and we'll do our best to arrange an individual visit for you.
