Applying for placements

When I first came to Bath, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after graduating. When applying for placements, I got a lot of advice about careers and possible opportunities to go into from the Careers Team. They helped me put together my CV, practise for interviews, prep for questions that I might be asked and also helped me secure a job after my placement. They helped me with applying for graduate schemes and dealing with the stress of applying for those while studying my degree.

My placement year

During my placement, I worked in financial markets and having never done anything in finance or economics before, I didn’t know if it was something I would enjoy so much. Having had a chance to see how markets work, getting interest in the financial markets and the way they operate, the trends and statistical patterns you can analyse in that, it’s made me decide that this is something I want to go into because it allows me to apply parts of my degree to a career as well.

Career plans

I was lucky enough to secure a job back at my placement employer at the Bank of England but I have decided to go onto a slightly different career path and join a graduate scheme at Lloyd’s where I will be doing part financial market risk and financial market product, as well as talking to clients and looking after client relationships.
