Use our guides to getting Assistive Technology help as a student or as a member of staff to find out how you can borrow equipment. The following items are available to loan, to trial or to help you work or study.

Access assisted hearing devices

Staff and students can borrow our easy set-up Geemarc Loop Hear 101 personal induction loop for short periods. It can be used in rooms which do not have hearing loops, for events or for accessibility provision for visitors with hearing impairment.

We also offer individual short-term loans of specialist Roger hearing aid microphones and connection equipment to staff and students.

Create tactile (3D) diagrams

We have a copy of TactileView design software to help students or staff who need to produce tactile diagrams using either our braille embosser, or swell paper and our ZyFuse heater.

• Scanning pens - portable text to speech solution for use in exams
• Noise Cancelling Headphones
• Headsets to use with text-to-speech or speech-to-text software
• White noise machines to help with concentration
• Writing slopes for a more comfortable writing position

Exam Equipment Loans

We provide support with Assistive Technology solutions for Exams. If you require any additional support for your Exams, please contact Disability Services.

We only provide laptops for the exams run by the Exams Office and install assistive technology software at their request. The Assistive Technology Team cannot loan laptops for class tests or departmental exams. If assistive technology software is required for departmental tests, please contact the Assistive Technology team.
