Enter the Doctoral Festival of Ideas Poster Competition

Guidance on how you can submit a poster for the Doctoral Festival of Ideas taking place between 24 and 26 June 2024.

All doctoral researchers are invited to submit an entry for the Doctoral Festival of Ideas poster competition. Either, submit a poster you already have or design and print a new one.

The posters will be displayed at the poster showcase for the duration of the festival and viewed by fellow researchers, staff and visitors. Poster discussion sessions will be held each lunchtime throughout the festival, and we encourage participants to stand next to their posters ready to engage throughout these sessions where possible. Should you be a remote learner or unable to attend in person, we encourage you to send your poster to the print unit for printing and the Doctoral College team will retrieve and display it on your behalf.

Benefits of submitting a poster

  • Focus and reflect on your project so far
  • Gain important feedback
  • Gain experience in presenting your research and in answering questions and justifying why your research is important
  • Discover more about the research being undertaken by your peers

How to submit a poster

You need to submit an intention to submit a poster form by Sunday 28 April 2024.

Completing this form lets us know that you are planning to be part of the competition. You will also need to provide a short abstract to accompany your poster of 100-250 words.

You will then be required to drop off your poster to the Doctoral College by Monday 17 June 2024.

If you are studying at a distance, then we can support you with this. Please indicate this on the intention to submit form and we shall be in touch.

If you don’t already have a poster and are about to make one:

  • Ensure the image quality is good, that all items are clear
  • Posters are best printed to size A0 (841mm x 1189mm).
  • We recommend portrait where possible
  • A title is encouraged
  • The entrant’s name must appear on the poster or in your abstract.
  • If you are a remote researcher, please send your poster to the print unit for printing. You can get guidance on how to do this here.
