The Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA) is an EPSRC funded research centre based in the Department of Computer Science, University of Bath and plays a key role within the B&B cluster. This post will be based with CAMERA, but involve considerable interaction with the wider cluster.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual to support CAMERA’s research and external facing work within our B&B Cluster activities. You will therefore have a software engineering background, ideally with Computer Graphics, Vision and/or ML experience.

You will take CAMERA research as well as prototypes across the academic landscape and work alongside existing CAMERA staff to exploit these in CAMERA and B&B projects. In particular, we are looking for someone to extend our AR/VR capabilities in relation to digital human capture and animation. Other desirable technical skills would include a combination of some experience of Maya or Unreal plug-in development, as well as experience of C++ and a scripting language such as Python or Matlab.

This is a fixed-term role for 36 months.

We also have another Studio Engineer role advertised (fixed-term until November 2022) to work with a new motion capture facility in South Bristol.

The Bristol and Bath Creative R&D cluster is a new, £6.8 million collaboration that aims to raise the bar for the region’s creative industries. The five-year programme seeks to forge connections and partnerships in Bristol and Bath, sharing knowledge, creating crossovers and even greater opportunities in what’s already one of the most vibrant clusters in the UK.

This first-of-a-kind collaboration between the region’s four universities - Bath Spa, the University of Bath, the University of Bristol and UWE Bristol - intends to connect the worlds of university research and creative business to develop a shared vision for tomorrow’s creative industries.

The cluster will make a real and lasting impact across our region by linking and expanding our collective strengths. We want Bristol and Bath to carry the torch for jaw-dropping innovation, creating the most inventive, compelling new products, services and experiences. And we want to achieve this in an inclusive and sustainable way, working as one to create a positive economic, social and cultural impact.

CAMERA’s remit is to engage in both research and commercial facing activities. This aligns with B&B objectives and therefore includes:

  • Applying research to existing CAMERA academic and ‘industry’ partners across the creative industries but with a focus on the South West UK region.
  • Carrying out new research/testing depending on existing project needs.
  • Carrying out research projects and/or commercial work with B&B partners in support of pathfinders, fellows or other projects with the overall objective of supporting the B&B cluster.
  • Seeking future research and commercial projects/funding for the sustainment of the cluster, CAMERA and South West creative industries.

Together, we’re ready to make this happen. We’d like to invite you to join us.
