The Department of Social and Policy Sciences is currently recruiting world class research leaders who can drive forward innovative and forward-looking policy research. As part of its recruitment strategy, it seeks to appoint a Professor in Global Public Health in order to expand our research capability and teaching excellence. The Department is internationally known for the exceptional quality of its research and its highly ranked teaching programmes. As Professor, the successful candidate will play a key role shaping the future of public health research in the Department and across the University, and provide teaching leadership. The candidate will benefit from working in an environment which prioritises interdisciplinary, world-changing and world-leading research.

We are undertaking a UK and international search to recruit an academic leader with an established track record of independent and world-class scholarship in the field of global public health. Candidates must have an outstanding record of publications in top rated international journals, a sustained record of attracting major research grants, significant experience of leading national and international research groups or networks, and auditable evidence of research impact or successful collaborations with non-academic partners. In applications, candidates are asked to provide a brief statement describing how they represent world-class rigour and significance, how their scholarship will enhance the activities of the Department, and in what ways they will provide academic leadership.

This is an exciting time to join a dynamic and successful Department carrying out cutting edge scholarship that engages with rapidly changing policy challenges. We welcome applicants who are committed to policy focused research and are able to connect with the considerable expertise in health across the University. We welcome applications in any field of global public health research that will complement the Department’s policy research strengths. These include but are not restricted to poverty, inequality and health; public health, ethics and social justice; public health and social welfare; the governance and/or financing of global public health; population health and healthcare reforms; social, behavioural, commercial and structural determinants of health and disease; demography, life course and health; public health challenges in complex environments such as conflict or humanitarian settings, global public health policy analysis.
