We are seeking an Automotive Technician to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering on a part time basis.

About the role:

You will join the Automotive Labs team and also work with the wider faculty technical services team. Your role will be to provide a technical service to the engine test cells and MSc Automotive courses as well as assisting with our chassis dyno facility as required. You will build and maintain bespoke experimental facilities, and prepare and instrument engines, turbochargers, electric motors and other components for use on current and future rigs.

The primary aim of this position is to provide staff and students of the labs with skilled, technical support for the design and manufacture of unique devices, as well as the repair, modification and construction of new and existing equipment and the manufacture of new components.

This is a part time position working 18.25 hours. The ability to work flexibly in this position is essential.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of building and maintenance of internal combustion engines and/or electric vehicles
  • Demonstrable ability to analyse scientific and technological information and suggest solutions
  • Experience ensuring safe working practices are followed
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work efficiently alone as well as part of a team

As this is a student-facing role, you should be confident working and communicating with a diverse student population. The team are responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for students and colleagues.
