The University works very closely with staff through our campus Trade Unions on a range of employment matters.
We recognise three Trade Unions – UCU, UNISON and Unite who represent different staff groups in discussions which range from pay and conditions of service to issues such as transport and sustainability. Feedback from the Trade Unions improves the way we work together and we all benefit from this open dialogue. Our formal relationship is defined in the University’s Trade Union Recognition and Facilities Agreement which defines how we will work together.
One of the key principles of our agreement is that of collective bargaining. This means that we will consult and negotiate directly with the relevant Trade Union on relevant matters which affect staff, and that if we reach an agreement with the Trade Union, it will apply to all staff in the group they represent. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Trade Union member or not, any agreed changes will apply to all in the relevant group.
Collective Agreements
The collective agreement is a really important mechanism for our work with the local Trade Unions and has enabled us to improve a range of employment matters at the University, often when national agreements have proven difficult.
As a member of staff, your employment is governed by the following collective agreements that the University has agreed between itself and its three recognised Trade Unions.
