Pamela Chesters CBE Chair of Council
The Chair is responsible for leadership of the Council as the governing body of the institution and ultimately to its stakeholders for its effectiveness.
Role
Pamela Chesters CBE was appointed Chair of the University’s governing body from 8 April 2019 for an initial term of three years and she has subsequently been renewed in post until 31 October 2025.
Career
Pamela is also currently Chair of the Independent Schools Inspectorate and is an Associate with NHS Providers, providing training in matters of governance. She was previously a non executive director and chair of the audit and risk committee at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and also the University of St Andrews. She has chaired a number of not-for-profit organisations, including the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, Anchor Trust and Action for Children, as well as serving as the Adviser for Health and Families to the London Mayor from 2009-2012. She held a series of senior management positions at British Petroleum between 1979 and 1998. She was awarded a CBE in 2013 for services to vulnerable children.
