Feasibility study: A basic income pilot project for wales

Authored by Malcom Torry, this paper is a response to the report 'Piloting a basic income in Wales'.

Report

A Basic Income is an equal, regular and unconditional income for every individual of the same age. Following increasing political interest in the idea in Wales, the think tank Autonomy and the Basic Income Conversation published Piloting a Basic Income in Wales: Principles, precedents and feasibility (Goodman et al., 2021). This response evaluates the Basic Income scheme recommended for the pilot project in the Welsh report. It then describes an alternative Basic Income scheme for Wales, and some feasible pilot projects: Basic Incomes for specific age cohorts and a pilot project for a single large community.

Authored by IPR Visiting Fellow Malcom Torry, as part of the Microsimulation group in the Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies (FRIBIS).
