As an international student, it is important that you engage with the Careers Service early on in your studies to gain an understanding of the UK job market and recruitment timelines.

International students can benefit from one-to-one support from Careers Consultants and Applications Advisers through our range of appointments. We can help you with your career plans, job search strategy and anything else career-related. Our Applications Advisers can give you feedback on applications for the UK job market.
Please note that we cannot give visa advice or give you a list of companies that will sponsor visas.

Events
We run regular events and host UK and international employers on campus or virtually. This is a great opportunity for international students to meet employers, learn about job opportunities and get vital tips for the application process. We also run events exclusively for international students. These events include finding a job in the UK and overseas, gaining an understanding of the UK recruitment processes and exploring visa options for working after studies, in collaboration with the Student Immigration Service.

Immigration and visa advice
Staff at the Careers Service are not trained to give immigration advice. To discuss any visa/immigration issues, contact the Student Immigration Service.
English language support
The Careers Service can help you with your CVs and applications, but can’t proofread and correct your documents.
You may be able to access help from the Skills Centre. One-to-one tutorials are available for current students. These can be used for checking documents such as your CV or cover letter. See the Skills Centre website for further details on tutorials and other support that they provide.
Part-time work and volunteering
Students' Union - SU Jobs
If you are looking for a part-time job SU Jobs can help you to find vacancies within the university and the local area. They also provide useful information on tax and applying for a National Insurance number.
Students' Union – SU Volunteering Office
Volunteering is an excellent way to make friends, develop skills and experience, and support good causes. The Volunteering Office can support you in deciding what to do and finding volunteer opportunities.
Wellbeing Service
It is important to look after your wellbeing during your course. The Wellbeing Service will ensure you get the right help from the right people to meet the challenges that life brings. They provide professional, practical support, advice and short term support and can help you access a range of services including, therapy, mental health support, groups and information.
