Top ten ranking for subjects in the Complete University Guide

Students in cafeThe majority of subjects from across the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences have once again been ranked within the top ten of UK universities in the Complete University Guide 2013.

Many subjects have performed consistently well, however Sociology has excelled by rising from a ranking of fifth the previous year to second in the UK.

Other subject highlights include;

  • Politics has risen from an overall ranking of fifth the previous year to fourth, as well as achieving a ranking of first for graduate prospects
  • Spanish has been ranked joint first for graduate prospects, with French being ranked joint second
  • Psychology has consistently been ranked overall as fourth, but has also achieved a student satisfaction of joint third
  • Sport Science has also maintained a ranking of sixth.

Speaking about these rankings, Peter Lambert, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), has commented: “We are delighted to see that many of our subjects are not only performing consistently well, but in some cases improving upon previous rankings.

“Having already been the Sunday Times University of the Year 2011/12, it is pleasing to see social sciences subjects performing well, especially given the challenging Higher Education environment.”

More generally, The University of Bath is the top performing university in the south-west, with an overall ranking of tenth.

The University of Bath has also been ranked 12th in The Guardian ‘QS top 50 universities under 50’ table for 2012.
