Investment in teaching facilities
In a major refurbishment of our laboratories we:
- have created a new undergraduate teaching laboratory
- are currently upgrading and expanding the student model shop
- have upgraded our Formula Student laboratory
- are creating a flexible project lab area to support our man-powered flight and land speed record student project activities.
We are one of the UK's leading Mechanical Engineering departments with a reputation for outstanding teaching, innovative research and strong links with industry.

Our degrees are designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in engineering. All programmes are accredited and provide a secure route to gaining Chartered Engineer status.

Research
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise rated the majority of our research as world-leading or internationally excellent.
Our academic staff, research fellows, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students carry out acclaimed work and publish in international journals. We also have several prestigious research centres.

We have extensive links with industry and work with businesses of all sizes. We also offer our expertise to companies through knowledge transfer partnerships.
