“With great support from the placement office, I was able to work for Williams F1 team. I was involved in the whole process of creating an F1 car, from initial designs to building the car and seeing it race. It was a fantastic experience.”

All our undergraduate programmes include optional, year-long paid placements with some of the world's most successful companies.
During a placement you will develop your skills in a commercial environment and learn about sophisticated engineering systems.
Recent placement students have had access to:
- Gas turbine engines

- Nuclear submarines
- "Snake arm" robots
- Wind turbines
- Superconducting magnets
How do placements work?
Students decide whether to take a placement during the second year of their degree. If you take part, you will spend your third year as a paid employee of a company or research centre.
Placements last for 12 months, although they can be extended. Most employers are based in Britain.
