Become a Climate Ambassador

Volunteer your time and expertise to work with local schools to empower them to take action against climate change and improve their sustainability.

Bath is part of the Climate Ambassadors Scheme, a UK-wide initiative from the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. We joined through a collaboration with the West of England STEM Ambassador hub and Graphic Science.

The programme has been designed to help young people understand, act and innovate for a sustainable future. It also helps schools to access the higher-level expertise they need to implement new strategies and actions for sustainability and against climate change.

How you’ll benefit from becoming a Climate Ambassador

As a Climate Ambassador, you’ll volunteer your time and expertise to work with local primary and secondary schools. You’ll help them learn about climate change and take real steps towards net zero.

This is your chance to:

  • make a real difference in your community
  • inspire and empower young people, showing them the possibilities of a climate-positive future
  • equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to tackle climate change
  • build valuable skills in communication, leadership and public engagement
  • expand your network by connecting with students, educators and climate professionals

You’ll also gain confidence, experience and a sense of achievement.

‘I got involved with the Climate Ambassadors scheme because I think it's important to get younger generations interested in tackling climate related issues. The children were interested in what I shared with them and it was great to see their work.’

What a Climate Ambassador does

Your activities will be shaped by your skills, interests and the needs of the schools you support. You could:

  • give classroom presentations on climate science and solutions
  • work with school clubs on real sustainability projects
  • mentor pupils on challenges like sustainable transport or carbon reduction
  • advise school leaders and governors on cutting emissions
  • inspire pupils with talks on how they can get sustainability relevant jobs

Whether you’re a confident speaker, project leader, or strategist, there’s a role for you.
