Leaving a legacy: Dot Griffiths

Dot studied a master’s at the University in the late '60s and has since kindly pledged a gift in her Will to support scholarships at Bath.

Bath alumna Dot Griffiths is passionate about furthering opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Dot Griffiths graduated from her MSc in Sociology at the University in 1969. She went on to become Dean of the Business School at Imperial College, Provost’s Envoy for Gender Equality and Chair of Central North-West London NHS Foundation Trust before retirement. In 2019, she returned to Bath as a member of the University Council.

Dot's deeply personal wish is to enable students to take up more opportunities at Bath:

"The work I did here at Bath laid the foundation for my career and enabled me to get my first academic post. I want to enable others to have the same opportunity that I had. My bequest is specifically to support two groups of students: those who face hardships because of their economic circumstances at home, and international students who have refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds. I hope studying at Bath will have as much impact on their careers as it has had on mine.”

Supporting scholarships at Bath

Driven by her desire to support the students who she feels are most in need, Dot wishes for her legacy scholarships to benefit both disadvantaged home students and international students who have sought sanctuary in the UK.

Dot’s legacy scholarships will include key elements from the current award-winning Gold Scholarship Programme for undergraduate students at Bath. As a result, these scholarships will not only offer financial support but also include skills workshops, mentoring and industry placements. It is Dot’s aspiration that these opportunities help future scholarship students gain a sense of belonging and boost their career prospects.
