Advancement Office
What does the Advancement Office do?
We support a network of over 150,000 Bath alumni across 170 countries. We love to stay in touch; updating them on university and alumni news, providing unique benefits and services and connecting business contacts or reuniting classmates through reunions and events.
Fundraising is another aspect of our work, and donations are a vital asset to the University (they provide scholarships, and fund new projects, research and buildings for example). However, the Advancement Office is not funded by donations, meaning that every gift goes to the project for which it is intended.
Is the University of Bath a charity?
Yes. The University of Bath is an ‘exempt charity’ as described under the Charities Act 2011 (sched 2, para c). It is exempted from requiring a charity number but is entitled to exactly the same financial benefits as registered charities including relief from capital gains tax and exemption from Inheritance Tax (Charity Commission England & Wales CC23, 35). The University is also a charity within the meaning of the Income & Corporation Taxes Act 1988, and, therefore, does not pay tax on legacy gifts.
Who are considered to be alumni of the University?
Anyone who has studied at the University is University of Bath alumnus/a. We also count former members of staff as alumni.

Getting involved
Can you put me in touch with old friends?
The Data Protection Act states that we are not able to provide you with details of other alumni without their permission. However, if we hold a current email address for them, the Advancement Office can forward an email or pass on a message on your behalf. Please contact us on advancement@bath.ac.uk or +44 (0)1225 386824 to request a link-up. You can also use Bath Connection to network with other alumni and search for your peers.
When is the next reunion for my class?
All upcoming events and reunions are publicised on our events page. You will also be kept informed of events in our regular e-newsletters. We can also support your self-planned reunion by contacting your classmates on your behalf. Email advancement-events@bath.ac.uk to get started.
Can I let my old classmates know about a charity event I am organising?
We are unable to promote fundraising or crowdfunding requests from students, staff, alumni or friends of the University of Bath. However, you may promote your events/projects via our social media channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Is there a Chapter in my area? Can I set up a Chapter in my area?
There are a number of alumni-led Chapters all over the world, but we are always happy to help start up more. Find out more about alumni activities and contact us directly for information on the number of graduates living in your area and advice on getting started.
Can I help current students in non-financial ways?
Alumni are encouraged to become mentors for current students and recent graduates. Register your interest to mentor a Gold Scholarship student by emailing the team. Alternatively, join our e-mentoring service Bath Connection and choose the level of support you are able to give. You can also offer careers guidance through our Get Connected events series, contact the Events Team to take part.
