We're keen to invite people from around the University of Bath to talk about or display their work at the 2025 Department for Health Postgraduate Research Conference.

This conference will promote discussions that reflect the breadth and diversity of health and wellbeing research undertaken across the Department for Health and wider University community.

The conference is open to postgraduate researchers and staff from all health-related research backgrounds and methodologies, and at any career stage.

What your submission should cover

Your submission may address any aspect of health, wellbeing, sport, or physical activity and can be rooted in a wide range of disciplines, inducing (but not limited to) social practices, biological sciences, clinical research, education, policy, psychology, physiology, or practice-based inquiry.

We particularly encourage submissions from a variety of perspectives, including work that:

  • Explores individual, social, political, or cultural dimensions of health and wellbeing
  • Investigates human performance, function, or adaption in a clinical, sporting, or occupational context
  • Addresses issues across the life course, from early development to ageing and long-term care
  • Engages critically with equality, access and inclusion in health or health-related fields
  • Contributes to the design, evaluation, or implementation of interventions, programmes, or policies
  • Applies innovative methods or interdisciplinary perspectives

Whether your work is empirical or theoretical, complete or in progress, we invite you to share your ideas, findings, and insights.

How to submit a presentation or poster

You can submit an abstract as an application to give a presentation or display a poster about your research.

Presentation abstract

Oral presentation abstracts are a maximum of 300 words. You should write it in clear, accessible language, suitable for a broad academic audience.

Your abstract should include:

  • Background: Briefly introduce the research area and its significance
  • Objectives: Clearly state the aim of your study
  • Methodology: Outline your research design, participants, data collection methods, and analysis approach
  • Key Findings (if available): Present significant results or expected outcomes. If your study is ongoing, describe its potential impact
  • Conclusion: Summarise the implications of your findings for research, practice, or policy.

Poster abstract

Poster abstracts are a maximum of 200 words. You should write it in clear, accessible language, suitable for a broad academic audience.

Your abstract should include:

  • Background and aim: Introduce the topic and research purpose
  • Methodology: Summarise the study design and methods used
  • Findings (if available): Highlight key results or anticipated insights
  • Conclusion: Explain the relevance and potential impact of your work

How to submit your abstract

You must submit your abstract as part of your booking, using the booking form by midnight on 12 May 2025.

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel from the Department of Health. If successful, you will be notified during the week of the 19 May 2025.

Accepted presenters will have sufficient time to prepare their presentations or poster ahead of the conference.
