Entrepreneurship and Management MSc

1 year, starting in September 2024

Learn to become an entrepreneur and develop your management skills. Graduate with the skills you need to launch a business or start your career in management.

This course is for graduates with an undergraduate degree in any subject who want to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. You’ll learn the skills you need to pursue a range of entrepreneurial projects from start-up to corporate level.

You will learn how to:

  • understand trends
  • identify and exploit opportunities
  • apply management knowledge to business problems or entrepreneurial ideas
  • communicate and pitch your ideas in a persuasive way
  • apply entrepreneurial processes across different contexts

Customise your degree with a range of optional units. You’ll be able to study fundamental management topics or build upon any existing knowledge with more advanced subjects.

You’ll have the flexibility to choose one of four options for the summer term:

  • an independent research project
  • work alone or in a group to develop a viable business model. This could be for a new or existing business.
  • act as an entrepreneurial advisor for a real start-up or SME, helping them develop a business model for growth
  • an entrepreneurship related internship within a start-up or SME

Key benefits

  • Network with our graduate entrepreneurs. They will give workshops on pitching, creative thinking, persuasion and negotiation. Enjoy coaching and feedback on your business ideas.
  • Experiment with the entrepreneurial process and develop your skills in an open learning environment
  • Develop a global outlook by learning and sharing knowledge with students all over the world
  • Combine practical experience with the newest, leading research
  • Entrepreneurship is a key theme at Bath. We're home to one of the largest research centres on innovation and entrepreneurship in the UK. We also have an entrepreneurship lab, Incepta, in our new School of Management building.

Learning and teaching

Overall workload

Your overall workload consists of class contact hours, independent learning and assessment activities. The balance of these elements within your overall workload may vary depending on the units you choose.

Contact hours

Timetabled contact hours, which can be made up of lectures, seminars, tutorials and laboratory classes, vary throughout your course and between courses but are typically between 10 and 16 hours a week during the taught semesters.

Additional briefing sessions will be provided to help you prepare for the dissertation/practice track period and as part of the co-curricular offering of live projects. (See below for the co-curricular offering.) You will receive direct guidance from an allocated member of academic staff for your dissertation/practice track activity.

Independent learning

As well as timetabled contact hours, you're expected to undertake independent learning and assessment. Typically, this might be around 25 - 30 hours per week, and include individual research, reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, preparing coursework, presentations, or revising for exams.

Assessment breakdown

You will experience a broad balance between different forms of assessment: individual and group assignments, as well as examinations. The work required may include written submissions, live presentations and recorded videos. Assessment on the course has been designed to support your professional development in important business skills.

The final degree grade is determined by a weighted average of the taught semesters (two thirds) and the dissertation/practice activity (one third).

We can make reasonable adjustments to assessment procedures for students with disabilities. Take a look at our Disability Service’s pages for information.

Recognition of professional qualifications

As well as being recognised as a higher academic qualification, a number of our degrees are also accredited by professional bodies in the United Kingdom. An accredited degree may entitle you to work in a specific profession within the UK, and abroad (where there are reciprocating arrangements with professional bodies in other countries).

The requirements to practise a profession vary from country to country. If you wish to practise your profession outside the United Kingdom, you are advised to confirm that the UK professional qualification you seek is valid in the country in which you are intending to work.
